The Audi Sport quattro S1 Pikes Peak is a variant of the E2, which is still to this day one of the most powerful rally car to be used in competition. It's fitted with an aggressive aerodynamic kit was added that featured very distinctive wings and spoilers to the front and rear of the car to increase downforce. The weight was reduced to 1,090 kg, and the S1 could accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds.

In 1987, German rally driver Walter Röhrl took it to the summit of Pikes Peak in a time of 10:47.85 and dominated the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb event.

Colin McRae DiRT[]

“The Quattro used to be one of my favourites when it competed with the 405 as one of the best hillclimb cars in the world. Now, sadly, it doesn't have the power or technology to play with the big boys, but it's still got the chops to rip up the mountain with ease, and it makes one raw hillclimb experience.”

“The Audi Sport Quattro S1 Pikes Peak broke the Unlimited hillclimb record in 1987, when it was driven to the summit by Walter Röhrl. Lighter than its Group B counterpart, and with greater aerodynamics, it is one of the best hillclimb cars of all time.”
