DIRT 5 is the eighth installment in the DiRT series developed by Codemasters. The game was announced on 7 May 2020, with the release date set at 16 October 2020 during the Inside Xbox stream as one of the launch title for the Xbox Series X, making it the series' first game on the ninth-gen consoles. It will also launch on PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5 and Xbox One. It is also scheduled to be released on Stadia in 2021. Players who purchased Xbox One or Playstation 4 copy of the game, regardless of physical or digital copies, are eligible to upgrade to the Xbox Series X or Playstation 5 version when the console launches.

The main development of the game is being handled by Codemasters Cheshire (formerly Codemasters Evo, more well known as Evolution Studios), instead of Codemasters Southam who developed all of the other entries in the DiRT franchise.

Description

DiRT 5 features a single-player Career mode, an offline split-screen gameplay for up to 4 players and an online mode with up to 12 players. There are over 70 routes from 10 locations around the world available to players to race on with 8 different types of race modes. Dynamic weather conditions is also introduced to the game, offering a challenge for all players whether they race on gravel, snow, mud or ice.

Livery editor has also made its return, with more editing options available than before. The game also features a Photo Mode, allowing players to take a snapshot of their favourite moments in the game.

For the first time in the franchise, DIRT 5 will feature a narrative-driven career mode where the player will face-off against Bruno Durand (voiced by Nolan North), a veteran racer and also the rival of Alex "AJ" Janiček (voiced by Troy Baker), who serves as the mentor to the player themselves.

The game also features an in-game podcast hosted by James Pumphrey and Nolan Sykes from Donut Media.
