Unveiled alongside the Fiat 124 Spider at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Abarth 124 Rally is built to FIA R-GT regulations. It uses the same 1.8-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder as found in the Alfa Romeo 4C; the motor, which produces 296 bhp and 444 lb ft, is positioned further back in the chassis than standard to help provide a 50/50 weight distribution.

The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed sequential gearbox with shift paddles. A mechanical limited slip differential, combined with adjustable throttle response and traction control systems, ensures optimal grip on all surfaces. Further modifications from the stock car include the removal of gearbox synchronisers (to reduce drivetrain friction), a complex rally steering wheel (with all the car's key controls), and a composite hard-top roof (replacing the road car's soft-top).[1][2]
