Revision as of 16:41, 1 April 2021

In 1999, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI was built by Ralliart and introduced to World Rally Championship as a successor to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V. Compared to Evo V, it has better cooling and engine durability thanks to a larger intercooler, larger oil cooler, and new pistons, along with a titanium-aluminide turbine wheel.

In the same year, Tommi Mäkinen, the reigning WRC champion at the time earned his fourth consecutive driver's title with the Evo VI with 4 wins and 3 podiums during the season. To commemorate Mäkinen's championship win, Mitsubishi introduced a special edition of the road going Evo VI, named the Tommi Mäkinen Edition. As their competitors starting to engineer their cars based on the newer WRC homologation regulations, the Evo VI will be eventually replaced by Mitsubishi Lancer WRC which is based on the Evo VII.
