Engineered by Opel and Holzer Motorsport based on the Opel Adam Cup, the Opel Adam R2 debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. It is powered by a 1.6-liter EcoTec engine with an approximate output of 185 bhp and 190 Nm of torque, which is connected to a five-speed sequential transmission which motivates the front-wheels via a limited-slip differential.
Opel eventually entered four cars into the European Rally Championship in the same year for the ERC-3 and the Junior category. Driving the Adam R5, Swedish rally driver Emil Bergkvist took the Junior championship title for Opel with three wins during the season.
