Based on the most expensive production Porsche model up to that point, the Porsche 924 Carrera GTS was an evolution of the 924 Turbo that preceded it. The car was homologated for Group 4 racing ahead of the 1981 season.

The Carrera GTS used an intercooled & turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine to produce 240 PS in standard specification, or 275 PS in the Clubsport model. For rally use, thick metal plate was fitted over the car's gearbox and oil pan, and the rear axle links were laminated with fibreglass for stone protection. The fuel distributor was replaced with the unit from the V8-engined 928 to ensure fuel supply at high engine speeds.

The newly-developed car proved its pace out of the box, with Walter Röhrl and co-driver Christian Geistdörfer claiming four overall victories for Schmidt Motorsport in the 1981 German Rally Championship; this would be the only season where Röhrl and Geistdörfer drove for Porsche in rally, as the pair moved to Opel the following year. The GTS made its last competitive outing at the 1982 Boucles de Spa Rally with Jacky Ickx at the helm.[1]

DIRT 5[]

The Porsche 924 Carrera GTS Rallye is a Classic Rally car in DIRT 5.

A custom Campaign Against Living Miserably livery was added to the car as part of update 2.00.[2]
