The Volkswagen Polo R WRC is built by Volkswagen Motorsport based on the Polo road car. It is built around the second generation of World Rally Car regulations that were introduced 2011, which are based upon the existing Super 2000 regulations, but powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine rather than the normally aspirated 2-litre engine found in Super 2000 cars.
Debuted at the beginning of 2013 World Rally Championship season, the Polo R WRC eventually became extremely successful by winning 10 of the 15 rallies it participated in its first season and 11 rallies in the second. Sébastien Ogier and Volkswagen Motorsport won four consecutive FIA World Rally Championships for Drivers and FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers respectively with Polo R WRC from 2013 to 2016. Andreas Mikkelsen also finished 3rd place in driver's championship from 2014 to 2016 with the Polo.
