Volkswagen Motorsport's Race Touareg took stage wins in its first ever Dakar Rally in 2004. This was followed by a 3rd place on the podium in 2005, and 2nd in 2006. Touaregs took outright victory in 2009, 2010 and 2011, becoming the first diesel vehicles in history to win the rally. Volkswagen ended its Dakar program following these three years of dominance[1].
